The Redwood City Teen Advisory Board purpose will be to express the ideas of tends and to fill the gap between Redwood City officials and its youth.

  • Create an atmosphere where teens feel safe and comfortable to express themselves and their ideas.
  • Encourage teens planning teen activities.
  • Promote interaction between high schools and middle schools.
  • Serve as a representative in an advisory capacity on City of Redwood City committees, planning for teen and citywide events.
  • Act as an advocate for teens.
  • Foster a greater involvement of youth in municipal government and civic affairs.
  • Study problems, activities and concerns of youth, especially as they relate to municipal programs or projects of the City of Redwood City.
  • Hold forums on concerned activities, either alone or in conjunction with other governmental agencies and community organization, as the Youth Advisory Council deems appropriate.
  • Review those municipal matter referred to by the City Council or other City committees and, as appropriate, make recommendations on those matters
  • Any resident of the City of Redwood City who will be in the ninth through twelfth grade during the next committee term, following his or her appointment will be eligible for membership of the Teen Advisory Council.
  • There shall be seven to eleven members of the Teen Advisory Board. Every effort will be made to represent a cross section of the Redwood City teens.
  • Potential members will fill out an application to serve on the Redwood City Teen Advisory Board.
  • The selection of nominees shall be governed by the following guidelines:
    a. Selection of nominees shall be made in a fair and impartial manner.
    b. Nomination shall be restricted to youth who express interest in representing their peers as members of the Teen Advisory Board and who are able and prepared to participate in Teen Advisory Board activities and make the required commitment of time and energy.
    c. Reasonable effort shall be made to assure that nominees are representative of the youth population as a whole.
  • Appointments to the Teen Advisory Board shall be made in October and shall be for a term of one year Teen Advisory Board projects.
  • Vacancies on the Teen Advisory Board during a term shall be filled by appointment by the staff liaison.

The Teen Advisory Council shall elect from its membership a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer for a one year term.
  • THE CHAIRPERSON shall preside at all meetings of the Teen Advisory Board and shall appoint standing or special committees as may be necessary to carry out the Teen Advisory Boards business, and shall supervise the efficient and responsible operation of the Teen Advisory Board.
  • THE VICE CHAIRPERSON shall preside at Teen Advisory Board meetings in the absence of the Chairperson, shall assume specific leadership responsibilities as determined by the Chairperson and shall assist the Chairperson in fulfilling his/her responsibilities as needed.
  • THE SECRETARY shall be responsible for all communications for the Teen Advisory Board meetings, and shall solicit and keep records of the minutes of the Council.
  • THE TREASURER shall be responsible for the record keeping of revenues and expenditures for the Teen Advisory Board Projects and Activities and shall report to the Teen Advisory Board quarterly on the Teen Advisory Board accounts.
  • The Teen Advisory Board shall meet twice a month in a regular business session.
  • Special meetings may be called by the Chairperson provided that at least three days notice is given to all Teen Advisory Board members.
  • The Teen Advisory Board shall publish an annual calendar indicating the regularly scheduled meetings for the entire year. This meeting schedule shall be made public no later than the third meeting of the newly appointed Teen Advisory Board.
  • The first meeting of each newly appointed Teen Advisory Board shall be an orientation meeting that may include outgoing members of the immediately preceding Teen Advisory Board. The second meeting shall be an extended meeting in which issues and concerns are identified, and began planning for the year.
